Our Values
Trainings for Healthcare Teams
The purpose of the training is to generate real change in the minds and hearts of healthcare professionals and eradicate prejudice and misconception regarding transgender individuals. We aim to provide a real understanding of the lives, challenges, needs and barriers trans people face when coming into contact with the healthcare system. We also provide information regarding the existing channels through which trans people need to go in order to receive adequate treatment within the medical and welfare systems.
Through this training we also aim to form alliances with healthcare professionals, so they can later become a contact point in their institutions and assist in knowledge sharing on the trans experience within their professional settings.
Throughtout the training we provide pamphlets with explanations on how to offer appropriate treatment to transgender patients, as well as postcards with the details of the organizations that provide aid to the trans community. “Safe space” stickers are also given to participants to place at their clinics. This is to provide a sense of security to LGBTQ patients, but also to raise awareness among staff and the general public about the proper treatment of marginalized communities of all kinds.
The training is designed for medical staff, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, welfare teams, administrative teams and medical and welfare students.
The trainings are held by Nina Halevy, who is part of the Gila project and is also the public representative to the Ministry of Health’s National Committee for the Approval of Gender Reassignment Procedures, and by Leeoz levy, a trans-queer activist, a writer and an artist who is well-informed about the life of our community over the years, and also acompanies women before and after undertaking surgery.
Courage
It is an obligation to do first of all what is considered impossible. Courage is a belief in the power, knowledge and abilities of everyone. Audacity is a commitment to dream for the trans communities.
Courage requires going where there is none - to be on the pulse. To see what is missing and what is needed for our community, and to send the arms to the places where it is needed. Courage is opening a space for entrepreneurship and action to change reality.
love
We are commitment to action out of shared destiny, from a point of view that sees the trans community as a family, for better or for worse, a family that loves you whether you come or go. Love is a mutual guarantee and solidarity, out of awareness of the power relations but refusing the hierarchy of help: the helpers are also helped.
Love is openness to change, to renewal, to different currents, to the sub-communities and families that make up the trans spectrum. Love requires partnership in making decisions and implementing them, without hierarchies.
Justice
is a requirement for economic, cultural and family prosperity for trans communities. A commitment to justice is a commitment to change here and now, which does not sacrifice those who barely survive today for the sake of another's tomorrow.
Justice is an insistence on both the goal and the means, both on principled requirements and on concrete solutions. Justice is first of all standing by the side of the weakest links in the human chain of the trans community, those who suffer from multidimensional oppression, and not only on the background of their gender identity.
Truth
It is a commitment to integrity in our conduct: with our community, with organizations and institutions, and with society in general. Truth is an insistence on presenting the trans reality of life, for its beauty and difficulty, and a refusal of mobilized narratives.
Truth is a refusal to flatter ourselves, to refine the message or to justify ourselves. Truth is the recognition of the enormous freedom that lies in the self-determination of gender identity, precisely from the understanding that gender is a tool of oppression, of control, and of an unfair distribution of life opportunities.
